Oscar Lua was drafted by the New England Patriots in the seventh round (211th overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft.


Played in 47 career games collecting 128 tackles, including 4.5 for stops totaling 19 yards in losses, five passes defensed, 1.5 sacks and three forced fumbles ... Had one interception that he returned 13 yards. 2006 (Senior): Played in 12 games registering 36 tackles (21 solo) with three tackles behind the line of scrimmage ... Also had three passes defensed ... Was a key special teams player. 2005 (Junior): Emerged from fall camp as the starting middle linebacker and led the team in tackles in 2005 while earning All-Pac 10 Honorable Mention ... Appeared in 12 games and started 11 times ... Had a team-high 66 tackles, including 0.5 sacks for minus one yard, plus one fumble recovery, two forced fumbles, one interception which he returned 13 yards and two deflections ... Made 2005 All-Pac-10 honorable mention. 2004 (Sophomore): Was a backup middle linebacker and key special teams player as a sophomore ... Appeared in all 13 games and made 13 tackles, including one for a loss. 2003 (Redshirt): Suffered an early injury and redshirted the 2003 season. 2002 (Freshman): Served as an often-used backup middle linebacker and played on special teams his first year at USC ... Oscar Lua was born May 9, 1984 ... He earned 2001 Prep Star All-American, Max Emfinger All-American, Super Prep All-Farwest Defensive MVP, Prep Star All-Western Region, Tom Lemming All-West, Tacoma News Tribune Western 100, Cal-Hi Sports All-State Medium Schools first team, All-CIF Division VIII first team, Los Angeles Times All-Southern California first team, Los Angeles Times All-Desert/Mountain first team, Riverside Press-Enterprise All-Riverside County first team and All-Desert Valley League Defensive MVP laurels as a senior linebacker at Indio (Calif.) High ... Despite missing three games with an injury in 2001, he made 148 tackles (88 solo) with three sacks while averaging 13 stops a game, plus had three interceptions (one returned for a TD), four fumble recoveries, six forced fumbles and scored twice on blocked punts ... He was also an outfielder on Indio's baseball team, hitting .485 with 11 home runs in 2001 to earn All-League honors for the second consecutive season and then .456 with 28 RBI in 2002 ... His sports idol is ex-USC All-American and current Patriots linebacker Junior Seau ... Was a public policy, management and planning major at USC.
