Jermaine Wiggins was claimed off of waivers (NY Jets) on 11/28/00 ... He was originally signed as a rookie free agent with the Jets on 4/19/99 ... He was released prior to the start of the 1999 season and was signed to the Jets practice squad.

College

A good receiving tight end who played his first two years of college ball at Marshall and then transferred to Georgia for his final two seasons …As a senior he played his way into being one of the regulars at tight end during spring workouts and then contributed in all 11 games, with five starts, during the season …Finished as the Bulldogs' 4th-leading receiver with 23 catches and played in all 11 regular season games as a junior … Redshirted after transferring to Georgia in 1996 … Helped lead Marshall to a Division 1-AA runner-up season in 1995 when he caught 58 passes for 681 yards and four touchdowns … Saw action in all 14 games as a freshman.


2001 Season

at Cincinnati (9/9): Was on the receiving end of a Drew Bledsoe 8-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter that culminated a 94-yard scoring drive and pulled the Patriots to within six points at 23-17. Indianapolis (9/30): Started first game of the season when the Patriots opened with a two tight end set. San Diego (10/14): Caught a Tom Brady three-yard touchdown pass with 0:36 left in the fourth quarter, subsequent PAT tied the game at 26 and forced overtime. at Indianapolis (10/21): Caught a Tom Brady two-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter. Buffalo (11/11): Started at tight end when the Patriots opened the game in a double tight end set … Part of offensive line that led the way for 134 yards rushing and a 100-yard rusher for the second consecutive week. New Orleans (11/25): Part of offensive line that led the way for a season-high 191 yards rushing and their third 100-yard rusher in the last four games. Cleveland (12/9): Credited with a tackle on a Browns interception return in the third quarter … Kept the ball from bouncing into the end zone on an Adam Vinatieri 33-yard pooch punt in the fourth quarter … Ball was then downed by Lonie Paxton at the Cleveland two-yard line. at Buffalo (12/16): Caught a season-long 25-yard reception from Tom Brady in the fourth quarter to help set up an Adam Vinatieri game-tying 25-yard field goal. at Carolina (1/6): Had a game and season-long 31 yard reception in the third quarter … Caught a Tom Brady five-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.

2000 Season

2000 (4/2-New England; 11/0-N.Y. Jets): Wiggins started the 2000 season with the N.Y. Jets and played in 11 games before being waived (11/27) ... He was claimed off of waivers by the Patriots (11/28) … Wiggins finished the season with a total of 18 catches for 207 yards (11.5 avg.) and two touchdowns … While with the Patriots he grabbed 16 passes for 203 yards and one touchdown.

Buffalo (10/17): While with the Jets, Wiggins recorded his first reception as a professional, a 3-yard reception in the team’s 27-14 win over the Bills.

Miami (10/23): He scored his first touchdown in the NFL when he caught a 1-yard pass in the Jets 40-37 come-from-behind win on Monday Night Football.

Kansas City (12/4): Debuted as Patriot on Monday Night Football and finished tied second on the team with five receptions for 41 yards and one touchdown … Caught an 11-yard pass on 3rd-and-8 to sustain a drive which culminated with Kevin Faulk’s 1-yard touchdown run … Snared two passes on consecutive plays for 25 yards, setting up Adam Vinatieri’s 53-yard field goal as time expired in first half … Caught a 1-yard touchdown pass from Drew Bledsoe on 4th-and-goal from 1-yard line to give Patriots 27-10 lead.

Chicago (12/10): Snared four passes for 39 yards (9.8 avg.) against the Bears.

Buffalo (12/17): Started his first NFL game and recorded three catches for 42 yards (14.0 avg.) … Grabbed back-to-back 17-yard passes during the game-winning overtime drive.

Miami (12/24): Wiggins recorded a career-high with 81 yards receiving, on four catches … He also caught the longest pass of his career, a 59-yarder in the third
quarter.
